PreK-5 Literacy Night Event

The Tanglewood Marionettes Present:

Thursday, March 15th

5:45 p.m.

Primary School

Set in the eighteenth century and featuring a dozen lavishly costumed 30” marionettes, this production of Cinderella is a Tanglewood Marionettes showpiece. The story unfolds as the pages of a giant book open to reveal each beautifully painted setting – the village square, the rustic kitchen, the magnificent ballroom, plus many more. All your favorite characters are here, from gentle Cinderella to the bumptious stepsisters and the charming Prince, and each marionette is manipulated with precision and grace by our talented puppeteers.

All families will leave with a book and a light refreshment of cookies and milk will be served!

Please RSVP by Friday, March 9th so that we can be sure to have enough snacks and books for each family!

The A.L.I.C.E informational night on Thursday, February 1st will be held at Leicester High School not the Primary School as originally planned.

The meeting will begin at 6:00. We hope to see you there!

The Leicester Public Schools, along with districts across the country, continues to utilize the safety procedure known as the A.L.I.C.E. plan.  A.L.I.C.E. is an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate.  The A.L.I.C.E. plan offers a different philosophy that allows for staff and students to make informed decisions in a crisis, which removes as many people from the danger zone as possible. For more information please see our website or information in our February Newsletter.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The Leicester Public Schools, along with districts across the country, continues to utilize the safety procedure known as the A.L.I.C.E. plan.  A.L.I.C.E. is an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate.  The A.L.I.C.E. plan offers a different philosophy that allows for staff and students to make informed decisions in a crisis, which removes as many people from the danger zone as possible.

During the week of February 12th, grade-level appropriate A.L.I.C.E. lessons will be delivered to students in their classrooms.  Knowing this can be a sensitive issue, your child’s age and grade level will be considered while these lessons are implemented.  The lesson plans and materials will be available on the school's webpage for parents to view prior to roll out to students.

Using the A.L.I.C.E. method, we will teach our students in the event of an intruder to:

  1. Listen carefully to the location and type of event

  2. Get to and/or remain in a secure area until it is safe to evacuate

  3. Apply taught strategies to maintain safety during the event.

Parents can prepare their child(ren) for the A.L.I.C.E. plan by helping them understand the following objectives at home.

  • The importance of speaking up when something or someone makes them feel uncomfortable

  • When your child is prepared for difficult situations, they can make more informed decisions and will have more self control

  • Help your child identify and assess possible crisis situations

Please contact the principal at your child’s school with any questions or concerns regarding the A.L.I.C.E. plan. Additionally, we will be holding a parent information night on February 1st at Primary School at 6:00 pm.

Primary Families are invited to participate in our

3rd Annual At Home Family Game Night!

Thursday, January 18th

We are asking families to choose a game that will help to strengthen reading and/or math skills.

Such games could include:

Scrabble - Cribbage - Chutes and Ladders - Candy Land - Yahtzee - War- Go Fish - Crazy 8’s- Monopoly- Trouble - Sorry! - Hi Ho Cherry Oh! - Battleship - Boggle - Apples to Apples - UNO

Here are some questions you could ask your child as you are playing:

Can you count out loud for me as you move?

Do you know other ways to make that number?

What number did you roll? How do you know it’s that number?

What would be 1 more/10 more than the number you rolled? How did you figure that out?

Did I roll a number greater than or less than your number? How do you know?

Tell me more about what you are thinking?

Where could we find out how to spell that? Dictionary?

Tell me more about other spelling patterns that you know.

If you are comfortable doing so, we would love for you to post a picture of your family playing the game of your choice on Facebook and tag us! In the past two years we have had well over 50 families share their game night photos!

Holiday Book Fair Notice- Sent Home November 22nd

We have decided to try something new this year and hold a small Holiday Book Fair along with our annual Spring Book Fair in May.

We thought with the holidays approaching we would offer parent/guardians a chance to do some early shopping!

This Fair will primarily be an online event therefore we will not be having students purchase items during the school day. We want to avoid classroom disruptions and also want to preserve the excitement that comes along with our Spring Book Fair

(students will be invited to make purchases during our May Book Fair).

The Holiday Fair will be at Primary on December 7th (during Parent Teacher Conferences) in our beautifully renovated library.

You may also choose to order items online starting November 22nd until December 8th. Orders are guaranteed to arrive in time for the holidays if ordered before this date.

Please use this online link:

Happy Shopping! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
